She Needs Your Help
I’m taking a leaf from Anne this Good Friday, and asking you, my readers, to take a moment and think about sponsoring this little girl. SHE HAS BEEN SPONSORED!
Her name is Mariam. She’s six years old and lives in Tanzania, in an AIDS-affected area. Mariam has been waiting for a sponsor for over six months. She lives with her grandfather and her mother, who are sometimes employed.
Mariam lives in the mountainous community of Makongoro, home to approximately 130,000 residents. Typical houses are constructed of cement floors, mud walls and corrugated iron roofs. The primary ethnic groups are Wahehe and Kihehe and the most commonly spoken language is Kiswahili.
The regional diet consists of maize, beans and cassava. A common health problem in this area is chest problems. Most adults in Makongoro are unemployed but some work as subsistence farmers and earn the equivalent of $12 per month. This community needs vocational training centers, income-generating activities and health services.
I would love to be able to sponsor Mariam. I am already sponsoring a little girl from Ethiopia, and it is such a blessing. Compassion sponsorship is amazing. Compassion works closely with the local church, and only employs local workers. They engage the family and the community by working with the children. And lives can be changed forever - the children’s and the sponsors’.
It costs $32 a month to provide support for Mariam- just over $1 a day. Let’s end her wait now. If you sponsor her, please comment and let us know. If she has already been sponsored by the time you read, there are many other children waiting too.

*I was originally featuring a different little girl from Tanzania, but she was sponsored five minutes after I posted (not by one of my readers)! If you read the original post in RSS, that’s the reason for the change. I love having to update for that reason!
