Two Under 2: Coming Up Soon!

twounder2
(source)

In less than five weeks I’ll have a 19-month-old and a newborn! I think it’s safe to say this will be one of the more challenging seasons of life. I’ve definitely known of harder situations – having twins before your first baby turns one; having four under age five (that was my family), etc. But I’m still a little nervous about this stage!

I want to write a series based on my experiences with having two under 2 – definitely not a how-to series, ha! – but sharing my journey, especially as it relates to specific topics, like transitions, devotional life, or housekeeping. I’d also like to have some guests posts from moms who have been there, done that, or are in the midst of it. Let me know if you’d like to contribute!

While I’ve been writing this post, Christian has opened a drawer in the kitchen and taken out a spatula and a spoon, so I should probably go reinforce my no-kitchen-drawers policy. Happy Thursday!

It will be “interesting” but mostly fun and exiting…. the more the merrier and for us more blessing means less work for mama (kids love having little “friend” around them all the time) our little one says that their sisters are their “Best friends” melts my heart!!!

Aw, that’s so sweet! I can’t wait to see a friendship develop between Christian and Eliza. That’s one of the main reasons we wanted to have them close together. :-)

I will look forward to this series! :) I have a little one (5months) and I’m rather intimidated by the prospect of eventually having multiple children under 5years old, let alone 2 under 2!! I’ll be praying for God’s grace and peace to rest upon you during this time!

Thanks so much for your prayers! Do you have a blog? :-)

I used to, but I stopped posting on it because of this whole new season of life. I’m contemplating starting another one in more of a different direction, but we shall see. :)

Haha! I love the no kitchen drawers policy. By his grace you will do FINE. I’m so excited for you and looking forward to reading about your journey. You know, research. ;)

Research, definitely! :-D

Looking forward to this series as I’ll soon have two under two as well!

Jared, Trevor, and I were all in diapers at one point! :O I’m so thankful that we were born close together because we were able to play together! I’m sure Christian and Eliza will be best buds :D

I’ve never commented before, but I’ve been following your blog for the last couple weeks (I think I found it through YLCF). My daughter was born four months ago, when my son was just sixteen months old…so I’m definitely in the two under two stage right now also! And yes, it’s been one of the harder season of my life, but also one of the most enjoyable too. I LOVE being a mama to two!

I’d be happy to contribute to your “Two under 2″ series..and I’m looking forward to hearing from you and other mamas about your/their experiences with this season. I actually already wrote a post about having two littles on my blog (http://jessicatelian.wordpress.com/2011/06/01/the-riches-in-being-a-mommy-to-two/). That, and other posts in the “mothering” category might give you an idea of where I’m coming from. :)

I loved reading that post… Stepping Heavenward is one of my favorite books. :-) I’m headed to find your email address…

Eep! Such an exciting time for you! :) It’s gonna be rough for sure, but, of course, completely worth it! I’m so excited for you! :)

Me and the dark circles under my eyes say “You can do it, Mama!” ;) God gives you a totally different perspective in this insanely busy season of life, I think. Praise Him for it. It’s not that it never makes you want to pull out your hair (that’s already falling out from post partum hormones anyway…) but sometimes when I think about how busy and stretched I am, I realize just how much His hand is part of everything. Can’t wait to read your journey! And you know I’m good for a tale or two if you ever need a contribution. ;) (Thanks for the DM on Twitter, btw! Lord willin’ and if the creek don’t rise, that package is going to the post office TOMORROW!)

I’m looking forward to reading your experiences with two under two – especially if that ends up being me too someday!

I am looking forward to hearing what you think as your 4 weeks (?) ahead of me! I’ll be there with you soon and will also be blogging on my end…if i have the mental capacity! So excited for your little girl to arrive:)

Hi Anna,

Thanks for the comment on my blog! :) I can relate to where you are, my two girls are twenty months apart! And it has been ….fun!? ;) lol! Especailly since my eldest was gross motor delayed, so when I had a baby my eldest was still not quite walking yet! So it’s been a challenge. But now they are 2 and 4 and as I type this they are playing (semi)quietly in the other room together. :) God gives us exactly what we can handly, nothing more – that’s what I kept telling myself when I was right where you are now! God’s blessings to you!

I’m excited for you! :)
?

Oh, that last question mark was supose to be a heart….

Hi! I come here via Grace’s blog.

Life is hectic, and LOUD when you have 2 under 2 but it is FUN and such a blessing. My first 2 are 21 months apart. I have not looked back once. (Although I am tired a lot, and may wear more makeup now than ever before to attempt to hid the circles:) They are close, they play well together (and fight well). We have good days and bad, but I am loving it, it is an exciting journey.

All the best with these last few weeks before you meet your little baby!

Thanks for your comment, Lindsey! Mine will be almost 20 months apart, and I love the way you described your kids’ relationship. I can’t wait for that!

I don’t technically fit the two under two category (mine are 2 1/2 and 12 weeks), but I just wrote a blog post about our transition from one to two. It has certainly been an interesting road (and a tiring one!).

I really wish I would’ve read books or asked others more about what the this season would be like, especially what the first born goes through in getting a new sibling. Maybe this will be helpful to you? Hopefully it’s not too depressing.

I’m trying to prepare my mind and heart as much as possible, but I know it’s still going to be a shock either way. :-) Thanks for sharing that post; it is a reality check but at the same time an encouragement.

Congratz on the expanding family! I am expecting too. Cheers to a healthy delivery and an even healthier baby!

Hi, Anna! I was directed to your site by Jessica T., above. You sound like a very like-minded person and that’s always lovely to find! :)

I would love to write a guest post on your blog, as I have two sweet little girls under 2. 14 months apart! It’s been a lot of fun, and there have definitely been challenges. Some of it just goes with the turf when you have 2 under 2, and some of it was brought on by myself – such as the time I took them in 2 umbrella strollers to a consignment sale: http://handprintsonthemirror.blogspot.com/2011/09/in-which-mommy-nearly-has-meltdown-part.html

I’m not always that crazy, though – just for the record, here’s a more serious post that gives a better idea of where I’m coming from: http://handprintsonthemirror.blogspot.com/2011/08/living-to-die.html

I couldn’t think of a better Mamma to nurture 2 under 2! He has given you grace thus far & will continue to sustain you. :)
The Olsens are excited for you!! If you ever have questions for 6 under 12, I can help. ;)
