Dresses and Naps
Sometimes I’m in a season where I feel like writing about important things – cultural reflections, happenings in the Reformed blogosphere, women’s roles. But lately, I’ve felt like writing about my little life as a wife and mother. I know it’s important too, but it’s small. I hope you don’t mind the narrow scope of my writing (or lack thereof) for a season.
I’ve decided not to let a lack of profundity stop me from writing.
I’m 17 weeks today (hooray!) and plugging through the second trimester. I’m really enjoying these last months alone with Christian. I’m going to miss our one-on-one time.
I am reaching that awkward stage with clothes. My non-maternity shirts still fit, but they’re kind of tight, and I try to avoid that until it’s impossible. My maternity shirts are still too big.
My pregnancy uniform has become dresses (with leggings in public, since they’re mostly short). I’m pretty sure everyone’s already sick of seeing me in that combo! I’ve been collecting several non-maternity dresses that will fit throughout a lot of pregnancy, like this one:
I do need to get a few more shirts for this in-between stage, though, and eventually some maternity capris. I’m not even thinking about getting more maternity jeans (I have two pairs) because hello? Pregnant + summer + Florida = miserable and I am never going to wear jeans if I can help it. I already feel like wearing nothing but dresses and it’s only April.
I didn’t realize I had so much to say about clothes.
Christian is in an awkward stage himself – between one nap and two. I was telling a friend the other day that I don’t mind one nap, but the inconsistency drives me crazy… I never know what to expect from day to day. This is a two-nap day, which is so nice.
I wanted to write about more than clothes, but I need to take advantage of the rest of little one’s naptime, so that’s all for now.
I usually only wear dresses and skirts due to how I feel about modesty. But for this pg I have been wearing more pants. I just don’t have the skirts that fit and since I have been sewing my own, I have slacked off due to being pg. lol I never even thought about wearing leggings with the shorter dresses.
Like Renee, I am all belly in front. (I even have peopl tell me that I don’t look pg from behind. lol) Clothes that fit with my last pg aren’t fitting with this one. They are too tight. On days that I stay home I wear jammie pants and my husbands t-shirts.
I am now 29 wks with 11 more to go. :S It is going to be a long 11 weeks. lol Hang in there, you will make it.
Liam went through a phase a couple months ago where I was sure he was going to give up his morning nap, it got really inconsistent {not that his naps have ever been very consistent, but the morning nap was always the most reliable}. Then, all of a sudden, the morning nap got regular again and the afternoon nap did as well. It’s so hard to figure kids out
.
I love it when you write about motherhood and life! Dresses are so fun, my selection is limited this spring because I have to find them with easy nursing access. Target has some cute ones!
Ahhh, the in between naps stage is a tough one! Even after Q went to one nap, it was a journey figuring out which it would be, and eventually merged into one nap at around 1 p.m. right in the middle of his previous naps. They change it up on you all the time!
I like these posts…I find myself right there with you. i just can’t process deep thoughts right now cause I have mommy brain and pregnancy brain. Plus, I am finding each day a little bit of a blur lately. Very cute dress. That is exactly the kind i wear and I just look fat in the belly…don’t have that cute roundness yet:)
Oh, I like the clothes post! I’m glad you’re not letting the shift in what you want to blog about keep you from posting. Very cute dress – and I think living in dresses and skirts for the summer is a very good plan! When I first visited those lower east-coast states, I felt like I was dying of heat in my jeans – now I know to bring more skirts or dresses instead.
Belly picture, please!
So lovely to hear from you again!
Praying that this pregnancy is wonderful for you and your new baby. Your dress / leggings outfits sounds adorable for a pregnant mama!
I LIVED in elastic-waistband skirts last summer
I hated dresses because they made me look like a shapeless whale–but I found a few great non-maternity skirts I could just wear below my belly and that was soooo much comfier than pants! try Ross, Target, even NY&Co. bet you’re adorable in your dress-and-leggings combos
I think dresses and leggings are an adorable combo! I am in a jeans rut and have been for a long time…jeans, jeans, jeans every day. I think I could stand to wear leggings more often!;)
I can help you with this, Mrs Anna! I have capris you can borrow. Remind me & I’ll bring them Sunday. I have black & khaki. This will force me to go shopping for some non-maternity clothes, which I need to do anyway, so I think the timing is perfect!
Call me Friday or Saturday!

For our second pregnancy I wore skirts and long shirt almost to the end but with our third, long dresses and jumpers (both light weight for summer) where better (my belly was all in front and even large maternity shirt where too small!!!
Wow 17 weeks time sure flies by fast!!!
