Stories of My Life

wherein I ramble

I love Mondays. As long as I don’t get too behind over the weekend, I love the fresh start of a new week. If I don’t rush but take time to appreciate my work, I enjoy folding laundry and filling our pantry and putting dinner in the crock pot.

My latent insomnia has reared its ugly head the past couple of nights. Christian has been sleeping through the night for a few months, except for the disruption caused by our trip to Ohio. I wake him up to nurse him before I go to bed, and then he sleeps till 7:30/8. (Famous last words!)

BUT he woke up at 6:45 on Saturday morning, 5:00 on Sunday morning, and 2:00 this morning! Oh, I was not a happy camper when I couldn’t fall back asleep on Sunday. And last night I tossed and turned for two hours before I finally fell back asleep around 4:00. Sweet child, you are throwing more curveballs at your mama… although the not-being-able-to-fall-back-asleep definitely isn’t your fault.

(watching ourselves… can ya tell?)

Much grace is needed after nights of so little sleep. I’ve been in default grumpy mood for about the past five days. Skipping my devotions led to feeling distant and indulging in irritability and selfishness and emotionalism and WOW, let’s reveal my ugly heart!

Ann’s book arrived Friday, and I’m on chapter three. I tweeted, “I was skeptical about One Thousand Gifts, dearly as I love Ann’s writing, just because of all the hype – can it really be that good? It IS.”

Now for a bit of an abrupt change of subject, some miscellaneous thoughts to finish off with:

  • I simplified our living room last week, and it’s so peaceful and perfect for what I envisioned (no big changes or beautiful decorating, just… simply… simplifying). (If you could see our office though… that’s my next mountain to conquer…)
  • Chewy Lemonheads are SO good.
  • I love getting happy news from dear friends!!
  • Have you heard of the documentary Babies? I want to watch it.
  • I’m also reading If God Is Good by Randy Alcorn, and rereading After the Leaves Fall by Nicole Baart so I can get to the third book, Beneath the Night Tree, which I just received, and review it for all of you. I love having a reading list for the year; it’s really giving purpose and direction to the books I choose.

I suppose this is long enough already. My hot chocolate is gone and I think I’m going to read now. :)

CUTE pictures! I hear you about starting fresh on a Monday. I got behind this weekend, with Q’s birthday party…today was not relaxing! But, it’s all good. ;) The Babies movie was really quiet, and slow moving, but cute and a stark representation of the differences between birthing in other countries. The US birth was to a new agey set of parents, and kind of weird…but…overall it was cute.

lol! I love that fist picture!

I love the pictures! I’m sorry you havne’t had good sleep for a few nights – I don’t do well on little sleep, so I think having a baby in the house will be an adjustment!

I was intrigued by the “Babies” previews too and so I thought I would watch it one day when Derek was at work – I wasn’t impressed. Alot more nudity than I anticipated (mostly related to baby stuff or tribal attire, except for when the San Francisco mom and her baby were shown in their hot tub in the buff – why? I don’t know). I ended up fast-forwarding through the last half of it. The babies were cute though. I just wouldn’t watch it when any men might be around! Ha!

Oh yes, I saw the “cultural and maternal nudity” warning and was thinking I would probably watch it by myself. :-) That seems like a little more than “cultural nudity” … typical of American standards!

Yes, the sleep thing will definitely be an adjustment, but it gets better, and in the beginning when you only have one and they sleep so much during the day, you can sleep with them! Best advice ever… although I couldn’t fall asleep. But if you can it will be a lifesaver!

You are so cute how you write! I love it! Of course, if your hot chocolate is all gone, it’s time to read! :) heehee…thank you so much for sharing and writing and just being yourself. It’s so refreshing!!

Cora still has nights like Christian. We just let her cry it out but it definitely ruins my nights of sleep. Insomnia seems to be something that comes with motherhood. I started the Babies documentary but actually was not a huge fan…maybe cause I found it strange watching people breast feed and half naked. It really wasn’t crude or sexual…just strange.

I don’t like watching people breastfeed either… at least on TV where you’re supposed to pay attention. Obviously when I’m around other moms it’s not like I’m staring at them so it’s different. Hmm, I am getting such mixed reviews on this movie!

I love your pictures. I knew exactly what they were when I saw the first one! Christian is looking so old! Didn’t I just see him a couple weeks ago? Must be he knows he’s quickly approaching his first birthday and is rushing to mature appropriately!

Aw! :-) Those pictures were actually taken before we saw you!

Love the pictures! :D

Babies is probably one of the best documentaries I have seen!
Such a cute movie! I mean, who doesn’t love a whole movie just about babies?! :D
I love the pictures, Christian is getting so big!!

My momma & I are going to watch Babies together this weekend, I’m so excited! Since Noah will be a year old in a month I think the timing will be wonderful. :)

I’m on chapter 2 of One Thousand Gifts and agree with you – it is amazing!

You & Christian are adorable!

I have watched Babies. There was a lot of nudity! I was so surprised how many mothers let their boys run around with shirt and no diaper or pants! And just pee on everything. It was shock and awe for me.
Plus, the tribal women walk around with everything hanging out too. I agree with one of the comments above, don’t watch it with AJ at home!

glad I’m not the only weirdo…I tend to really enjoy Mondays, too :)

This is cool! I love the pictures & the words =)
