Looking intently in a mirror

I often fail to trust that the Word of God has powerful relevance to my life, today, in this exact circumstance. I gloss over its truth, and sometimes I’m guilty of thinking that I’ve heard it all before – how can it continue to change me? This is a faithless response. How can I not be changed by words like this:
“I will be merciful toward their iniquities, and I will remember their sins no more.” (Hebrews 8:12)
God chooses not to remember my sins – as if they never existed. It’s arrogant and sinful of me to breeze by that verse as if it’s a tired old saying.
“But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror. For he looks at himself and goes away and at once forgets what he was like.” (James 1:23-24)
The Word of God is living and active. I am one of very little faith. “I believe; help my unbelief!” (Mark 9:24)

I resonated with this post…such great truth about His forgiveness and the power of His Word…and such truth about my lack of belief at times. Thanks for this!
You’re right– those of us that have been a Christian for a while and that have seen God work can sometimes gloss over the simpler truths believing that we need something deeper.
The problem is that there is nothing new in the Bible– while at the same time everything is new. It’s a relationship we’re in.
Thanks for the reminder.
