Four-year-olds on politics and the opposite sex.

I voted this morning. After receiving my “I voted” sticker, I gamely stuck it to my shirt and went to work. Several of my preschoolers were also wearing the stickers. One little girl with a sticker of her own pointed to mine and queried with excitement, “Miss Anna, did you went voting too?!”

Throughout the day, impromptu political discussions among the kids piqued my interest… and my laughter. The kids discussed which candidate they preferred and cheered for their candidate of choice. Another little girl told me that Obama was going to win because her cousin told her so.

Late in the afternoon, all of the boys in our class had been picked up by their parents. This doesn’t usually happen, so I said, “Girls, look, all the boys are gone, and you’re the only ones left!” One cute little curly-haired blonde girl clapped her hands and said, “Yay! The boys are gone! We don’t like boys… they’re not pretty.” Another girl responded quickly, “But they are handsome!”

I’m definitely going to be interested to hear their comments once election results are in!

How adorable!

The part about boys being handsome made me laugh. I can remember being obsessed as a child with the fact that only girls could be “pretty” and that boys had to be “handsome”. Just the other day, I had a three year old correct me when she heard me say a baby boy looked “beautiful”. Funny, the things kids get caught up on. :)

:) I love it that you post every day now.

gotta love the kiddies.

I love the picture you put with this post. :)
