Strength in weakness
Have you ever reminded someone of a truth from Scripture, only to have it come back around to you soon afterwards? The other day I mentioned God’s strength in weakness to someone. Today I was struggling with my insufficiency and insecurity in a few areas. When I turned to 2 Corinthians, which I’ve been reading for awhile, to read the next passage, it was chapter 12:1-10. I was so touched by God’s faithfulness.
“But He said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong.”
His grace is sufficient. Enough to fulfill my needs. And his strength is made perfect in my weakness. Complete and capable.
I had the privilege of hearing John Stott speak once, and an elder in the church where he was speaking prayed a prayer I haven’t forgotten: “For every emptiness in us, there is a corresponding fullness in You.” And for every weakness in me, there is a corresponding strength in Him. Alleluia!

Anna, I cannot tell you how much this meant to me… I know exactly what you mean about sharing a truth to someone and needing to hear it yourself.
2 Corinthians is one of my most turned to books, for I am always in need of His sufficient grace for I am so weak. I wrote a post yesterday about my weakness and God brought me to these verses for comfort.
The prayer you shared was what I needed to hear tonight. I must write that in my journal. Thank you again for this great encouragement.
Oh and I love John Stott… I just bought one of his books today, “The Cross of Christ”. I am really looking forward to reading it.
Hello Anna! It has been a while since I’ve commented, but I just want you to know that I have been reading every one of your posts, and am always so blessed in doing so. This post was particularly relevant to me and really spoke to me this morning, thank you! I hope you are doing really well. Drop me a comment on my blog sometime and let me know how everything is going
Wow…I really needed to read your post this morning! I have really been struggling in this area, and your post was a great reminder that He is sufficient
Ditto to the above comments. This was extremely timely. It also encouraging to read the above comments and this post just to know I’m not alone in my feelings of insufficiencies…
I love your last paragraph! What a cool idea! So neat that you caught a glimpse of God’s sovereignty in experiencing the encouragement you shared with another.
It can also be neat to experience the truth of a verse and then later share the verse with another. It’s good to remember what God’s sovereignty and how He works out the Word in our lives. I want to experience that transforming power more often
Thanks for sharing your experience here!
Anna,
I completely understand about the particular Scriptures that seem to pop up at the same times. That happens to me often, and even in something that simple I marvel at how God orchestrates everything!
Thank you for sharing this Scripture and what is upon your heart. It was also something that I needed to be reminded of this very morning. Blessings!
