Stories of Sharing the Gospel
Telling others about salvation through Christ is supposed to be so basic to our Christian walk. When I was little, I was so passionate about this. I remember once I wanted to go around and ring all the doorbells in our neighborhood and tell people the good news. I often talked about Jesus to my friends. I was very gung-ho for missions.
Now, I overthink it. I hear skepticism constantly. I hear people questioning every possible method of sharing the gospel. I’m faced with pluralism and relativism as I try to share the truth.
One of the most encouraging things for me is hearing stories of how others have shared the gospel - simply, obediently, joyfully telling the truth about Jesus and the salvation He offers. Even if there was no positive response at the time, it can still be an encouraging story.
So I’m asking you to share your stories about sharing the gospel. I’d love to hear who you talked to, how the conversation began, what context it was in, what response there was, how you felt about it, etc. Thanks in advance! ![]()

I must admit I fail terribly in this area, but I have had a couple encouraging experiences. One time I saw a young woman in an airport who seemed very depressed. As I begin imagining all the things that might be going through her mind, I felt compelled to pray for her. I felt the Lord prompting me to do more, so I prayed that He would place me close to her on the plane. She ended up sitting in the seat directly in front of mine. I began making excuses, telling myself that there was no way I could visit with her as I couldn’t see her. Still I couldn’t get out of my mind, our close proximity and my intial prayer. I picked up a magazine I’d brought along and “happened” to read the testimony of girl who had deliberatly ignored the Holy Spirit’s promptings to share the love of Christ w/ someone. She was dealing with guilt and yet was motivated to never let it happen again. So I got a pen out, and wrote a note to the young woman seated in front of me. I didn’t clearly state the gospel, but told her I was praying for her in the name of Jesus and gave her my email address. When our flight landed I ran off the plane to catch up with her. She thanked me as I handed the paper to her and we went our separate ways. A couple days later she emailed me and introduced herself and thanked me. I was SO pumped, yet convicted too, because it took so much gumption to do something so small. However I trust that God used that effort to plant a seed.
I used to be like you when I was little (like 8 or 9!). I tried to start Bible studies with neighbor kids who were way older than me and very uninterested. Its more challenging now, as pride tends to war with my heart to share. I pray for a passion for the gospel that fear of man cannot deter. great topic Anna, and I too, would love to hear others testimonies.
Thanks so much for sharing that story, Kaylene! I really like hearing practical methods of reaching out, like writing a note with your e-mail address.
I always enjoy your writing, and the posts you bring to the blogosphere. This one was especially poignant to me as we were just having the discussion about evangelistic campaigns (renting convention center, well-dress evangelist, lots of staff on hand . . . ) vs. the one-on-one sharing Him, (living a life as a reflection of Christ, sharing His love, sharing his Words, etc) Oh, it’s such a debate among so many people in so many churches, but I really most appreciated what YOU had to say. You’re right, we should share no matter what. And as much as it’s overused, we never know what will grow from the ’seeds we plant’ along the way. The point is, we should keep planting, right? Thank you for your thoughts!
Aw, greenchickadee, I appreciate that. Thanks for reading! You’re right, it is such a debate, but I like how you put it: living a life as a reflection of Christ, sharing His love, sharing His Words.
