The Prosperity Gospel

watch video

This is TRUE and powerful. Not only does it debunk the lie of the prosperity gospel, it drives home the message of Jesus as all-satisfying and worthy of our only worship. And it includes my favorite Scripture, Psalm 73:25-26. Beautiful. Watch.

  1. I have spoken out against health/wealth gospel since i was a kid. Even as a teenager, I knew something was dead wrong and found myself becoming angry at these preachers who promised wealth and healthiness if you did a, b, c or even better yet, you deserved it because you were a child of God.

All the times that I had to bite my tongue because of my present company. All the times I lack the courage or the direction of God to even speak up. I go home and sit and dwelled on that anger.

But I started kneeling before the Almighty God and decided to serve him every single morning, I become obedient and then I hear Him. He has taken that anger away and gave me a sense of purpose in this life: to do His will.

Because God is greater than anything that we could hope to be, I have seen everyday pastors start stepping away from hwp gospel preaching. The only ones who are left preaching that garbage are the ones who have built multi-million dollar ministries based on their own strengths and talents and obviously not taking any command from God on the Most High. All they have left is their pitful little castles built on foundations of sand.

John Piper said something that should scare you when he mention that we Americans were selling this hwp gospel to the people of Asia and Africa who are starving for the gospel. (Case in point: there is more Christians in China then there are Communists.)

Do not fear this warning because the Word of God is unchangeable. They may be selling this garbage to the rest of the world but there are great shepherds in the rest of the world who have protected their flocks from the trash we are sending them. One particular pastor in Durban, South Africa was so so careful to redefine weatlh as not just pertaining to money and made sure that his congregation was not focused on money.

Our portion is Him and I am more than blessed.

  2. Posted the same excerpt to a different vid a while back on my own blog. Prosperity gospel has always irked me. Also the distortion of the word faith. I prefer using the word trust rather than faith.

When I was in Australia at a baby Christian Bible Study Creflo Dollar was on TV. On it he said that if the victims of Sept 11 had enough faith they wouldn’t have died. They could have told the plane to stop and it would have. Needless to say the pastor’s son and me had to spend the rest of the study explaining why that quite wasn’t the case.

  3. Wow, excellent. Thanks for the link. There is nothing that can compare to the beauty and grace of the gospel and the joy to be found in God in the midst of suffering.

  4. Brilliant video, God bless John Piper for speaking out so strongly against the heresy that is preached under the guise of “the gospel”.

  5. That was a great video.

  6. incredible

  7. What i really like in the video is the righteous anger being expressed by Piper. Sometimes we forget that Christ himself had a zeal for God that consumed him so much that it angered him to see the corruption in the temple. There are some things that we should get angry about. Things that diminish the glory of God.
