New and Improved

Monday, March 3rd, 2008 | Blogging

Welcome to the new and improved, but still familiar version of Hope Road. :-) I’m glad that I’ve been able to make this transition relatively smoothly. I’m slightly worried about having my old site left static, along with certain Google rankings, but I’m confident that my readers are smart enough to know where to find me. :-P (If you have any advice about setting up to redirect, both domain and links, I’d love to hear.)

Please let me know if you find any glitches or you have any suggestions. Look for regular posting to start up again tomorrow!

Good job getting everything together for this new site (I myself would never attempt such a job and would have to ask my husband do it for me!;) It looks great and I look forward to seeing what is to come in your posts!

I love the new site - it’s beautiful; you did a great job! May the Lord continue to bless you as you write for His glory and honour. It’s a blessing to my heart!

I run four blogs that are blogs, and some as websites, and I’m afraid that you won’t be able to point a wordpress.com blog to your new address because you don’t have access to their domain information. This is one of the reasons that bloggers need to consider getting their own domains early.

The part that really hurts is that the links on search engines still point to your old blog, not here. That’s hard to change.

Basically you could ask those that have linked to update their links (use Google to find those that have linked to you, either through their search engine or through site tools).

I would suggest that you think through how long you let your wordpress.com blog hang out there. People can still find that old blog and link to it. I would make sure that you post that you’ve moved, and if you can find someway to make sure that’s on every page, I’d leave it up for a month or so and then take it down.

I would definitely not leave it up indefinitely.

Everyone, thank you for the encouragement! I’m glad you like the new setup. This header came with the blog theme, but I like it so much for what my blog is about that I kept it. :-)

MInTheGap, thank you for that info. I think I do need to take my old one down eventually.

Your new blog layout looks great, Anna. Are you still using Wordpress?

Hey Anna, if there’s anything I can do to help, let me know. I’ve been in and around WordPress blogs for a few years and I know how to tweak CSS, PHP, etc. If you’re running a self hosted blog (your own space, plugins, etc) you’ll find that there’s a lot of great things that you now can do that you couldn’t on wp.com.
